The Silent Prayer Siege
History of the Silent Prayer Siege – by Lou Engle
After fifty days and nights of intercession for justice, the election and revival in America, 70 young men and women from The Cause have come to pray in Washington D.C. During a prayer journey across America, one of our young men had a dream in which thousands were gathering together in the nation’s Capitol. In this dream, he looked and saw another young man with tape over his mouth and the word “LIFE” inscribed on it.
I could not shake this dream. It seemed God was saying, “I want The Cause to stand before the Supreme Court in silence to identify in intercession with the silent screams of 43.5 million babies aborted since 1973 and to repent for the silence of the Church over this burning issue of injustice.”
Thus, we took our stand in silence on October 4th. On that very first day that the Supreme Court re-convened for its fall session, the National Organization of Women (NOW) held a press conference in front of the Supreme Court clapping loudly and shouting for the ongoing legalization of abortion and homosexual marriage. We were like grasshoppers before massive pillars of the awesome edifice and totally ignored by the press in front of the boisterous mob. But God’s silence is louder than the boasting of men. He uses the weak things to confound the wise and the things that are not to nullify the things that are.
With tape fastened to my mouth and tears in my eyes, the Lord spoke to my heart, “Lay a siege on the Supreme Court!” Ezekiel 4:2-6 states:
Lay siege against it, build a siege wall against it, and heap up a mound against it; set camps against it also, and place battering rams against it all around. Moreover take for yourself an iron plate, and set it as an iron wall between you and the city. Set your face against it, and it shall be besieged, and you shall lay siege against it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel. Lie also on your left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it. According to the number of the days that you lie on it, you shall bear their iniquity. For I have laid on you the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days; so you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Israel. And when you have completed them, lie again on your right side; then you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days. I have laid on you a day for each year.
Suddenly I was struck with the thought that it has been 31 years since 1973, the year that abortion on demand was legalized. I realized that I had arrived in WashingtonD.C. exactly 31 days before the elections. God spoke to me, “You are to bear the iniquity of 31 years of abortion by standing silent with “LIFE” taped over your mouth to bear the iniquity of that bloodshed.” WOW!! A day for each year that abortion has been legalized.
For these 31 days, we were not to protest but to pray. Our intercessory act is an appeal to a higher court and a higher judge and our appeal is to the One who loves justice and the Champion of the most disenfranchised, marginalized, and assaulted people group in America; the unborn. We are crying out with silence, “God take up the cause and plead your own case before the jury of heaven!” It is a demand to the powers on behalf of the oppressed saying, “Let my people go!” The silent siege for the silent screams. Our spiritual demand is for justice from the Justices. We are saying, “END the silent screams and give the children their dreams!”
Some Prayer Points During a Silent Siege
- Salvation of the staff (Doctors, Receptionists, Security, etc.) of the Clinic (Eph. 1:17, Father reveal Your Son)
- The Lord would place a guard over the wombs of the women keeping the women from entering into the clinic (II Thes. 3:3)
- That the Lord would deliver the unborn from unreasonable and wicked men who are seeking to take their lives. (II Thes. 3:2, Psalm 18:4-6, 16-19)
- Jesus, I plead your blood over my sins and the sins of my nation. God, end abortion and send revival to America.
