No, the Bible Definitely Says Abortion is a Grievous Sin

Some believers lately, because of the pressure of this particular election cycle to justify their departure from wickedness within the Republican party, have said the Bible does not condemn abortion. Since the Lord touched my heart deeply so many years ago (and has continued to), I want to bring the Church back to the Word and the truth that God hates the murder of abortion and that it is one of the things He is coming back to the earth to stop.
One of the great shames of our nation is the Sand Creek Massacre—a “massacre of Cheyenne and Arapaho people by the U.S. Army in the American Indian Wars that occurred on November 29, 1864”. By the terms of the 1851 Treaty between the United States and the Plain Native Peoples, the United States recognized that they held a vast territory. However, In November 1858, Americans discovered gold in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Immigrants flooded across Cheyenne and Arapaho lands. Colorado officials pressured federal authorities to redefine their land. Some of the chiefs of the tribes agreed but many Plains Native American’s did not agree and began attacking supply convoys and smaller settlements. Colorado Governor John Evans sent a circular to the Plain Indians inviting those that loved peace to come to Fort Lyon under the protection of the US military. After a while they were commanded to relocate to Big Sandy Creek. They refused. In complete rage, the military under the command of Col. John Chivington began slaughtering the warriors and didn’t stop there. They killed women and children. There is eyewitness testimony of women’s wombs being cut open and the unborn fetuses removed and displayed as war trophies.
In Amos 1, God prophesies judgment on another nation that did the very same thing, “For three transgressions of the sons of Ammon and for four I will not revoke its punishment, because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to enlarge their borders.” The Lord told them that because of this “I will set fire to Rabbah’s city wall; fire will consume her fortresses. War cries will be heard on the day of battle; a strong gale will blow on the day of the windstorm. Ammon’s king will be deported; he and his officials will be carried off together.” The entire chapter of Amos 1 actually eerily recounts our history with the Native American people but that is another subject. God’s heart was concerned over the killing of not only these women but the innocent little ones that were inside them. Why else would He have even mentioned that they were pregnant? I imagine that detail could have been left out if it was insignificant.
The Psalmist in recounting Israel’s history lamented, “Ps 106:37,38 They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons, And shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with the blood.” The people of Israel engaged in the practices of the people that had inhabited the land before them which included sacrificing their children. When they did, there was actually a pollution that it caused to the land. Moses warned Israel that if they did these things the land would “vomit them out”. All of this came to a head when Manasseh was filling Jerusalem up with blood and a generation later judgment was poured upon them, “2 Kin 24:3,4 Surely at the command of the LORD it came upon Judah, to remove them from His sight because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done, also for the innocent blood which he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; and the LORD would not forgive.” Whose blood did Manasseh shed? “2 Kings 21:6 He made his son pass through the fire…He did much evil in the sight of the LORD provoking Him to anger.” It was the last straw. God saw it fit to remove them from the promise land. It was over. The Lord would not forgive this wickedness (in other words the judgment was going to happen no matter what).
It is ironic that Israel would turn back to this wickedness after God brought Egypt to its knees partly because of the slaughter of innocent children. Stephen when He was giving that beautiful account of Israel’s history remembers of Pharaoh, “Acts 7:19 It was he who took shrewd advantage of our race and mistreated our fathers so that they would expose their infants and they would not survive.” Pharaoh ordered the Jewish midwives to do this very thing but in the fear of the Lord, they refused! God heard the cries of these little ones along with the suffering of the enslaved people and destroyed the most mighty empire on the earth.
God’s heart is filled with joy and delight over the unborn. He considers them a gift, a reward (Psalm 127:3)! He longs to take them, draw them out of many waters like when he rescued that little baby Moses from being exposed so he “would not survive”. He wants to rescue them because He delights in them (See Psalm 18). When He returns to the earth He will arise like a Mighty Warrior (See Is 42). He will judge wickedness. He will fight against a wicked abortion industry who has profited off of the suffering of women and their babies. Just like He brought Egypt’s mighty empire to its knees, just as He vomited Israel out of their land, just as He brought fire to Ammon, God will judge America over abortion. Right now, as the Church, we have a choice. Who’s side will we be on when He comes? Will we be in agreement with Him or will we agree with what is popular in our culture? He delights in the unborn. He will judge all that gets in the way of His delight.
