God raises up kings and tears them down (Dan 2:21) and He turns the hearts of kings in whatever direction he wants like channel of waters (Prov 21:1). Jesus is involved in the leaders of nations and uses them for His will. The Bible also tells us to pray for those in authority. And who and what we pray for, we get God’s heart for. No matter whether we agree or disagree with our President, we can get God’s heart for him and love Him as God loves Him and see him how God sees him.
It is a critical time for the body of Christ to pray for our President. It seems like no matter who the President is, the enemy is always seeking to turn us against him. If the church can be turned against the president, then we won’t pray for him partnering with Jesus in everything He wants to use him for in his time in office. One thing is certain we as the church must unify to pray for our nation and for our leaders. This is a key component to revival.
You may remember we wrote a similar newsletter about praying for President Obama several years ago. No matter who the President is, the same principles applies. Only as we sit before God’s Throne and dialogue with him about the man in the office can we get God’s heart and declare his purposes.
One of our favorite verses to pray for the President is Colossians 1:9-11. Pray for the President to be filled with the knowledge of His will and spiritual understanding. We must pray for godly counsel to surround the President, as Daniel and Joseph were raised up to advice the leader of their day. We can pray for dreams and visions for the President, that his heart would be instructed in the Word by night and by day, from the mundane tasks to the stress filled tasks. We can pray for the President to increase in the knowledge of God asking for the eyes of his understanding to be enlightened and his ears to be inclined to hear and declare wisdom from above and declare what God is saying in this hour. We can pray that our President would walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, and being fruitful in every good work. We can ask God that our President would gain heaven’s wisdom and walk in it, just as Jesus only did what He saw His Father doing.
It helps me to remember that the President, like myself, will stand before the Throne of God and be judged one day. I long that His time in office will be pleasing to God and the fruit will last for eternity. I like to remember that the President has a family and is also a father and husband. We love to (as we did for Obamas) pray for his family for protection, for unity, and for strengthening that they would all stand together loving Jesus wholeheartedly. I can’t imagine the pressure that is placed upon him and his family especially while he is President.
